Ebonnie Masini: What's the best hotel you've ever stayed at? Can be budget or luxury.
Max Kater: The best hotel I’ve ever stayed at would have to be the Beverly Hills Hotel. We stayed there for about 2 weeks when we moved from Sydney to Los Angeles and it was pretty special. They treated us like family and the boys had the run of the place by day 2. Little known facts: They give kids a special VIP card to get endless free milkshakes and smoothies from the poolside Terrace Cafe and they play music underwater at that iconic pool. How good is that?! Friday is Reggae. Love it. I’ve never actually stayed at the Splendido Hotel in Portofino, although I produced a photo shoot there once. A pretty close second, I imagine (but I plan to find out)!
EM: What's your favourite restaurant in the world?
MK: Anything on a terrace (La Terrazza or Chuflay) at the Splendido. It’s overlooking the harbour, which is dotted with villas and boats. So breathtakingly glamorous, you feel like you’re in a Bond movie!
EM: What's your #1 travel tip?
MK: Dress for real life. It’s so weird how usually practical people lose their minds when it comes time to pack for a trip. Suddenly, they think they need hot rollers, a trench coat and those spindly heels they haven’t worn all year! My rule of thumb (with some exceptions) is this: If you haven’t used it all month, you probably don’t need it.
EM: What 3 things are always in your suitcase?
MK: Hot rollers, a trench coat and spindly heels. Just kidding! I always have:
- Comfy/chic walking shoes.
- A warm, versatile jacket (which I wear on the plane).
- A party dress that I can roll up into nothing…just in case.
EM: What's your go to plane outfit?
MK: I rock a good PJ! I always wear the top to the airport with jeans and roll up the pants in my carry-on to change into once we’re at altitude. I like to be comfy, but I don’t want to give in to sweat pants, either! A chic PJ set + Jacket looks pulled together enough to wear to dinner with heels!
